BA Rugby Union is preparing to make a significant impact at the inaugural Sun Bell Tuna Drua 10s competition, set to take place this Friday at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. Head coach Ben Tora expressed his enthusiasm for the event, seeing it as an important opportunity for the team to display Ba’s rugby talent on a prominent stage.
Tora emphasized the value of this competition for the players, stating, “The Drua 10s offers our promising athletes a chance to gain exposure to a higher level of rugby and the intense competition it brings.” He added that competing against professional players will be a valuable experience for the team.
Despite recognizing the differences in resources and training facilities between Ba Rugby and the Fijian Drua, Tora views this as an incentive for his players. “The Fijian Drua have all the benefits of professional training equipment and experienced coaches. However, this challenge motivates our players, and they are keen to put forth their best effort.”
Ba Rugby’s roster features a blend of young talents from the highlands and surrounding villages. However, Tora pointed out the logistical difficulties faced by players in getting to training sessions. He highlighted the challenges for players like their fly-half Namelo from Navala Village, noting that adverse weather conditions can hinder transportation.
In evaluating the team’s strengths, Tora mentioned that while they may lack size, they compensate with speed and agility. He stated, “We are truly grateful to be invited to this competition.”
The Drua 10s represents more than just a tournament for the Ba Rugby team; it serves as a vital opportunity for their development and growth in the sport.
This event could mark a pivotal moment for Ba Rugby Union, allowing them to showcase their talents and potentially draw attention to the raw potential within their ranks. The team’s resilience amid challenges speaks volumes about their determination and passion for rugby, setting a hopeful tone for their performance at the competition.
