The 2024 Ba Rugby Tikina Championships officially commenced in Sorokoba Village, Ba. The tournament will begin this Saturday, featuring exciting matches across the Ba Industries Limited (BIL) men’s division, Rooster Chicken women’s division, and U19 division. The events will continue until October 19 and are integral to Ba Rugby’s elite development pathway for the three representative teams for 2025.
Ba Rugby Union executive Jeremy Duxbury announced the teams participating in the tournament. He noted that the Rooster Chicken Shield (Women’s) has added two new teams this year—Savatu and Yakete—bringing the total to eight teams. Additionally, all eight U19 teams will don brand new BLK uniforms during the tournament.
Duxbury expressed confidence that the Ba Industries Cup (Men’s), following a fiercely competitive club competition, is set to enhance rugby standards further. He highlighted significant improvements from clubs in Naloto, Magodro, and Savatu, indicating no certain outcomes in the matches.
Sanjay Badgujar, General Manager of BIL, emphasized their pride in supporting the Ba Rugby Union. He remarked on Ba Rugby’s impressive achievements despite challenges and expressed optimism that their partnership would help fulfill the goals of becoming champions in Fiji Rugby.
