The 2024 Ba Rugby Tikina Championships has officially been launched in Sorokoba Village, Ba. The tournament is set to begin this Saturday, featuring thrilling matchups in the Ba Industries Limited (BIL) men’s division, the Rooster Chicken women’s division, and the U19 division.
Running until October 19, these games are designed to be part of Ba Rugby’s advanced development pathway aimed at the three representative teams from Ba for 2025. Ba Rugby Union executive Jeremy Duxbury announced the teams participating in the tournament.
Duxbury mentioned, “This year, the Rooster Chicken Shield (Women’s) has two new teams, Savatu and Yakete, bringing the total to eight teams. The eight U19 teams will also debut new BLK uniforms for this tournament.”
He emphasized that following a highly competitive club competition, the Ba Industries Cup (Men’s) is anticipated to elevate rugby standards further. The improvements seen this season from clubs in Naloto, Magodro, and Savatu suggest that there will be no guaranteed outcomes.
Sanjay Badgujar, General Manager of BIL, the primary sponsor for the men’s division, expressed pride in their association with the Ba Rugby Union. “Ba Rugby has achieved remarkable success despite challenges. Many doubted we could become a powerhouse, but we have proven them wrong. We take pride in this partnership, which will contribute to meeting our objectives and aspiring to be champions in Fiji Rugby,” Badgujar stated.
