Ba Province successfully raised $208,408 during the Siga kei Ba and Yaubula Day 2025 event held at Churchill Park in Lautoka last Saturday. The funds collected have sparked hope among provincial elders, as they anticipate that these contributions, along with expected government assistance, will significantly enhance investment in essential sectors throughout the province.

Roko Tui Ba, Iliesa Delasau, expressed optimism about the allocation of the funds, which includes a focus on education and capital development projects. He highlighted the current struggles within the education system, stating, “We are concerned with the current performance of our students in schools.” He reaffirmed that education remains a top priority and emphasized the community’s commitment to raising the standards for their children.

In addition to educational initiatives, Mr. Delasau mentioned that part of the money will also support the province’s operational expenses, ensuring a well-rounded approach to development. He extended gratitude to the various tikina (districts) for their contributions and acknowledged the government ministries that provided essential services at the two-day event, facilitating greater community engagement.

The event also served as a critical platform to elevate awareness regarding various social issues affecting the Ba communities, further fostering a spirit of collaboration and problem-solving among residents.

In light of recent efforts from other regions, such as the Macuata province where twelve districts have collectively committed to raising funds for educational improvement, the proactive stance taken by Ba reflects a broader trend across Fiji to prioritize community-driven educational reforms. By pooling resources and collaborating effectively, these provinces are setting examples of how localized efforts can lead to significant advancements in education and overall community development.

The collective resolve exhibited by Ba Province and its leaders serves as a hopeful beacon for investment in the future of the region’s children, nurturing a generation equipped to rise above current challenges.
