Young rugby players from Ba and Suva had a wonderful opportunity to showcase their skills and enjoy the sport when Ba Rugby Union hosted the Seremaia Bai Eastern Saints Rugby Club for a series of friendly matches on Saturday. The event saw the Eastern Saints Academy and Ba Rugby competing in the U14, U16, and U18 categories, providing young athletes with invaluable game time just before the commencement of the new school term.

According to Seremaia Bai, the director of the Eastern Saints Rugby Club and Academy, this initiative was designed to keep students active and engaged ahead of their return to school. He emphasized that this marked the first occasion for the Eastern Saints to travel from Suva to Ba for friendly matches, describing the experience as immensely positive for both the players and coaches involved.

Bai pointed out that several U14 participants are making the transition from primary to secondary school, which comes with varying levels of skill and experience. He highlighted that the primary focus of the matches was not on winning but on fostering enjoyment, player development, and giving the young athletes exposure to competitive rugby in a supportive environment.

The Ba Rugby Union expressed appreciation for the opportunity to host the Eastern Saints, stating that such friendly matches play a crucial role in building relationships among clubs while nurturing young talent at the grassroots level. Overall, these exchanges are seen as a significant step forward for junior rugby development, with both teams reaping the rewards of this collaborative effort and gaining valuable game experience. This event not only promotes skill development but also strengthens community ties and the love for rugby among the youth.
