They achieved a remarkable victory, accumulating a total of 134 points and outpacing their nearest competitors, Denarau and Lautoka, who garnered 116 and 112 points, respectively. Host team Nadi finished with 96 points.
In a strong showing, Ba also clinched victories in the B-grade and C-grade divisions. Lautoka rebounded in the B-grade, securing first place with 97 points, followed by Ba with 87 and Nadi with 63. In the C-grade, Ba triumphed once again with 68 points, while Nadi and Lautoka finished with 60 and 47 points, respectively.
Amitesh Chandra, president of Golf Fiji, praised the camaraderie and competitive spirit among participating teams. He emphasized the significance of the Theodore Cup as a platform for western clubs, illustrating their commitment to elevating the standard of golf in the region. “The performance from all divisions, especially Ba’s A-grade team, was very encouraging,” Chandra remarked.
Golf Fiji Event Controller Rohit Chandra echoed this sentiment, commending the participating clubs and the host, and noted that Golf Fiji invested nearly $4,000 to bring this event to fruition, underscoring the value placed on unity among the western clubs. Emphasizing the event’s success, he stated, “It was money well spent.”
The Theodore Cup also served as a selection event for the West team, which will compete against the East in the highly awaited Annual East vs West Challenge later this year, reinforcing the ongoing excitement and value golf brings to the community.
This event not only showcased the high level of talent among local golfers but also highlighted the importance of community support and camaraderie in fostering the growth of the sport in Fiji. As the golfing season unfolds, the victories and engagement seen during the Theodore Cup create a hopeful atmosphere for future competitions.
