Ba Golf Club Diwali Open: Weekend of Surprises on the Greens

Mahendra Gopal and Asish Chand delivered impressive performances at the Diwali Open Golf Tournament held over the weekend at the Ba Golf Club, celebrating both competitive spirit and community camaraderie. Sponsored by Anita Persaud and Tiffany in memory of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gopal, the event attracted participants eager to showcase their skills.

Gopal clinched the Overall Nett title with a remarkable score of 63, demonstrating his consistent performance throughout the tournament. Chand emerged as the Overall Gross champion with a score of 74. The competition was fierce, with Raven Kumar finishing as the Gross Runner-up at 77, while Yash Kumar took home the Nett Runner-up title, also scoring 63.

In the A Grade division, Ashwin Sharma took first place with a score of 74, just ahead of Dinesh Narayan who finished with 75. Rohit Chandra and Kavitesh Sharma both recorded 76, placing third and fourth respectively, while Rajen Singh secured the fifth spot with a score of 77.

The B Grade competition featured Damon Chen, who led with a net score of 70, followed closely by Namal Kishar and Abdul Khan both at 71. Eperama Bola (72) and Adeel Khan (73) rounded out the top five. In the C Grade, Harshil Sharma claimed first place with a score of 71, edging out Amitesh Maharaj (71) on countback. Moshim Khan finished third with a score of 72, while Pradeep Chandra secured fourth place with 76.

For novelty prizes, Joeli Dakunimata won Nearest to the Pin on Holes 3/12, with Mahendra Gopal also winning on Hole 7/16. Rohit Chandra (Hole 8/17) and Chandar Shekhar (Hole 9/18) were awarded for Second Best Shot, while Rohit Chandra and Asish Chand both excelled in the Longest Drive category on Holes 4/13 and 9/18, respectively.

In the ladies’ competition, Jenny Sharma achieved the Ladies Best Gross title with an outstanding score of 67. Several special awards were also given, including honors for the Best Dressed (Josese Wara), Hardest Worker (Brendan Daniel), Guest Prize (Bobby Reddy), Most Consistent Golfer (Sailesh Kumar), Tough Day at the Office (Joeli Dakunimata), and Best Barman on the Course (Chandra Shekar).

Additionally, the Two-Men Ambrose event saw Anaya Sanvi and Asish Chand take first place. Closely trailing them were Christopher Daniel and Damon Chen in second, followed by Mahendra Gopal and Rohit Chandra in third. Other notable pairings included Bobby Reddy and Chandra Shekar in fourth, and Sailesh Kumar with Yash Kumar completing the top five.

This vibrant weekend of golf not only highlighted the skill and dedication of the players but also reinforced the sense of community within the Ba golfing circuit. Events like these reflect the support and passion for golf in the region, inspiring future generations to excel in the sport.
