The Ba Football Association has announced the formation of a new interim board committee as part of its ongoing restructuring efforts. Praneel Dayal has been appointed as the Interim President, taking over the position from Dr. Diva Singh, who is currently on leave due to threats received via social media.

Dayal’s team includes three Vice Presidents: Farhad Bhamji, Zaim Ali, and Zahida Hussein, who represents a commitment to inclusivity within the leadership structure. Sabrina Khan has been designated as the Interim General Secretary, while Alex Singh steps in as Treasurer. Other key appointments to the committee include Faiz Javed Jan, overseeing legal and disciplinary affairs, Vincent Ali managing the Local Regional League, Deepesh Prasad focusing on futsal and beach soccer, Charlene Lockington for women’s football, and Krishneel Singh leading youth development.

This restructuring marks the third consecutive year that Ba Football has functioned under an interim committee. Mohammed Yusuf, CEO of Fiji Football Association, explained that the use of an interim board is necessary to ensure compliance with Fiji Football Association regulations until the district can stabilize and prepare for elections. He mentioned that previous board members had left unexpectedly, necessitating a refreshed leadership team.

Yusuf emphasized that both the association and its clubs need to achieve compliance in order to move towards an Annual General Meeting (AGM) for new elections. He noted, “This is not a new entry; it’s just a reshuffle,” indicating that while leadership is changing, the ongoing dedication to continue enhancing the welfare of players remains unchanged.

As Ba Football moves forward under this new leadership, there is optimism among stakeholders for a revitalized effort to comply with necessary regulations and ultimately restore the organization to a fully elected governing body by next year. Recent similar restructuring efforts in other regions, such as Tavua and Savusavu, have shown that positive changes are achievable when there is a commitment to compliance and reform in governance.

This proactive approach suggests a hopeful trajectory for Ba Football, aiming to foster a stronger organizational structure and restore the community’s trust in its leadership.
