Defending champions Ba FC women’s team are preparing for an intense match against Rewa FC as the 2024 Fiji Football Association Inter District Championship (IDC) kicks off this weekend. The tournament, taking place at the Fiji FA Academy Ground from February 21 to February 23, features the top four teams from the Fiji FA Women’s Super League competing in a round-robin format for the prestigious title.
Head coach Charlene Lockington has expressed her confidence in the team’s readiness, stating that the players are focused and eager to deliver their best performance on the field. “We are expecting a tougher game against Rewa compared to the last time we met, as they have made several player transfers,” Lockington noted. This anticipation adds an exciting layer of competitiveness to the match, as Rewa is set to bring a renewed challenge.
Ba FC enters the competition not only as defending champions but also in a strong position, with no major injury concerns reported. This level of readiness is critical as they also prepare for the upcoming Women O’LEAGUE in Tahiti scheduled for May.
The community is encouraged to rally behind the team as they embark on their journey to defend their title. The tournament schedule includes matches this Friday, starting with Nadi FC versus Labasa FC at 1 PM, followed by Ba FC against Rewa FC at 3 PM. Saturday will see Labasa face Rewa at 1 PM, and Ba take on Nadi at 3 PM, with the final matchups on Sunday.
The IDC not only highlights the talent of women footballers in Fiji but also serves as an essential platform for aspiring female athletes. The spirited competition is a celebration of sportsmanship, community engagement, and the growing prominence of women’s sports in the region. It promises to inspire the next generation of female athletes while showcasing the unity and passion that football brings to Fiji.
