The Ba Football Association has taken a firm stand against the spread of false information on social media by referring an individual to the police for creating a Facebook page that allegedly disseminated malicious and defamatory content targeting the association and its leaders. The Fiji Police Force has confirmed the arrest of this individual in connection with these allegations.

According to police spokesperson Ana Naisoro, investigations are actively ongoing following a formal complaint made by the Ba Football Association. Praneel Dayal, the president of Ba FA, expressed concern over a troubling trend of misinformation circulating across social media platforms. He highlighted that this disinformation appears aimed at creating divisions within the “Men in Black” family and the broader football community.

Emphasizing the association’s commitment to integrity, Dayal stated, “While we respect the legal process and the presumption of innocence, we want to make it clear that Ba FA will not tolerate actions that seek to destabilise our association.”

Fiji FA’s chief executive officer, Mohammed Yusuf, has also issued a stern warning to those responsible for dispersing false information. He asserted that anyone found guilty of spreading misleading or defamatory content that undermines the integrity of the sport will face strict disciplinary measures in accordance with Fiji FA regulations, alongside any potential legal ramifications.

This incident underscores the increasing concern over misinformation in sports, as authorities and organizations work to protect the integrity of their communities and foster unity among fans and athletes.
