The Tribunal Report regarding alleged misconduct by the suspended Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde, is set to be released following the careful review by President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu. A Tribunal, consisting of a three-member panel appointed under section 112 of Fiji’s Constitution, completed its investigation and submitted findings to the President on December 23.

Justice Anare Tuilevuka led the Tribunal, with Justice Chaitanya Lakshman and Justice Samuela Qica serving as additional members. According to a statement from the President’s Office, it is necessary for His Excellency to review the Report thoroughly, conduct consultations, and seek appropriate advice before making it public. However, these processes have encountered delays due to some officials being on leave for the holiday season.

The President’s Office acknowledged the constitutional requirement to release the Report, expressing a commitment to do so promptly once officials return to work in the New Year. In a letter to the President’s office, Pryde requested the release of the Report and stated that if it reveals insufficient evidence of wrongdoing, his suspension should be lifted, allowing him to resume his role as DPP.

This situation underscores the importance of transparency and accountability within the judicial system. The scheduled public release of the Report may help foster trust among the citizens and assure them that due process is being followed, highlighting a commitment to justice in Fiji.
