A group of aviation security specialists from Airports Council International (ACI) has arrived in Nadi to carry out the first-ever comprehensive review of Fiji Airports’ security governance, systems, and processes. This evaluation comes at a crucial time, as the demand for air travel continues to surge following the global pandemic, according to Fiji Airports’ CEO, Mesake Nawari.

Mr. Nawari emphasized the importance of this review, highlighting Fiji Airports’ significant role in the aviation sector within the region. The APEX review team will scrutinize the airport’s existing security practices, identify any vulnerabilities, and provide recommendations aligned with international standards, including Annex 17 Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and the Aviation Security Manual.

Through this vital examination, Fiji Airports aims to discover areas for enhancement that will align its operations with international best practices, ensuring safety for travelers. The review will focus on various aspects, including security policies, surveillance measures, risk assessments, incident response protocols, terminal layouts, and major airport services.

The core team conducting the four-day ACI APEX review at Nadi International Airport consists of five international experts from countries such as South Korea, Hong Kong, Australia, New Zealand, and Tahiti. ACI, which advocates for airports worldwide, is dedicated to enhancing aviation security capabilities across the globe, and Fiji Airports is fortunate to partake in this initiative.

The findings from this review will contribute to Fiji Airports’ strategic plan for 2025 to 2034, particularly in the realm of Safety, Security & Compliance, as the organization strives to become the premier aviation hub in the Blue Pacific region.

This initiative not only reflects Fiji Airports’ commitment to safety and security but also underscores its dedication to improving the overall travel experience for its customers, paving the way for a brighter future in aviation in the region.

In summary, the APEX review signifies a proactive approach to strengthen aviation security at Fiji Airports, ultimately leading to enhanced safety standards and an improved travel environment. It is a promising step towards achieving international excellence in aviation services.
