Australia’s Schoolboys Seek Redemption in Fiery Second Test

The Australian Schoolboys under-18 rugby team is looking for redemption as they prepare for the second test match against the Fiji Schoolboys. This comes in the wake of their 14-26 defeat in the first test held at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka on Saturday.

This loss marked Australia’s first defeat to Fiji since 2003, and the team is keen to demonstrate their capabilities in the upcoming match. Head coach Dan Hawke noted that the unique atmosphere in Fiji has presented the players with an unforgettable experience, and he acknowledged the challenge posed by a formidable Fijian team.

Hawke pointed out that Fiji’s strength lies in their effective counterattacking, with three of their four tries in the first test originating from such plays. He stressed the necessity for his squad to maintain discipline and avoid a gameplay that could play into Fiji’s strengths.

To improve their performance, the Australian team plans to avoid long cut passes, recognizing that the Fijian players showcased greater speed during the first match. The team is committed to adhering to a structured game plan while reducing risky plays that could benefit their opponents. Hawke also emphasized the importance of managing emotions on the field, minimizing unnecessary offloads, and steering clear of random kicks that deviate from their strategy.

“The team is focused on playing a more controlled and disciplined game in the second test,” Hawke stated.

The second test is scheduled to take place at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka at 3 pm today.
