Two leading Australian boxers are set to participate in the South Pacific Boxing Promotions event scheduled for October 26 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. The announcement was made by SPBP promoter Fred Chand, following the sanctioning of the fights by the International Boxing Organisation (IBO).
The main event will feature IBO Asia Pacific and Fiji super welterweight champion Winston Hill, who will face the powerful Lachlan O’Shea. O’Shea is a former champion of the Australian National Boxing Federation’s Queensland title and has pushed Australia welterweight champion Joel Taylor to his limits.
Chand stated, “Both the IBO title fights will involve world-class boxers.” In another significant matchup, local fighter Sebastian ‘The Sniper’ Singh will have the chance to enhance his world rankings as he takes on the unbeaten Sydney-based ‘King’ Tonga Tongotongo for the vacant IBO Asia Pacific cruiserweight title. Singh currently holds the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Asia Pacific cruiserweight title.
Chand expressed gratitude to Singh for embracing this challenge, emphasizing, “To be the best in the world, you’ve got to fight the best.” Tongotonga boasts an impressive record, having won all eight of his professional bouts, according to Box Rec.
Chand mentioned that they are finalizing details for the undercards and will issue an official announcement once sanctioned by the Boxing Commission of Fiji. Additionally, SPBP director Mohammed Shameem confirmed plans to bring in renowned Australian ring announcer Steve Peios along with a professional boxing referee for the event.
