Two prominent Australian boxers have been officially announced for the South Pacific Boxing Promotions event scheduled for October 26 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. Fred Chand, the promoter for SPBP, confirmed the bouts following their sanctioning by the International Boxing Organisation (IBO).
In the headline match, IBO Asia Pacific and Fiji super welterweight champion Winston Hill will face the powerful Lachlan O’Shea. O’Shea, a former Queensland titleholder with the Australia National Boxing Federation, has previously challenged Australian welterweight champion Joel Taylor in a highly competitive fight.
Chand noted, “Both IBO title fights will feature world-class boxers.”
In another significant matchup, local fighter Sebastian ‘The Sniper’ Singh will seek to enhance his world ranking. Singh currently holds the World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Asia Pacific cruiserweight title and will fight the undefeated Sydney-based ‘King’ Tonga Tongotongo for the vacant IBO Asia Pacific cruiserweight title. “To be the best in the world, you’ve got to fight the best. We’re grateful to Sebastian for taking this opportunity,” Chand added.
According to Box Rec, Tongotonga has an unblemished record, having won all eight of his professional bouts. Chand mentioned that they are in the process of finalizing the undercard and will provide an official announcement once it has been approved by the Boxing Commission of Fiji.
Additionally, SPBP director Mohammed Shameem expressed plans to bring in renowned Australian ring announcer Steve Peios and a professional boxing referee for the event.
