Fiji’s healthcare logistics system is set to enhance its capabilities with a significant donation of $143,000 FJD from the Australia Fiji Health Program. This initiative, facilitated by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), aims to address critical medical needs within the country.
The donation, presented to the Fiji Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Services (FPBS), comprises essential items including a forklift, laptops, trolleys, and 14,000 saline intravenous solutions. These resources are designed to improve operational efficiency and respond to urgent healthcare demands.
Dr. Luisa Cikamatana, the Chief Medical Advisor at the Ministry of Health, highlighted the impact of these items, stating that the forklift will optimize warehouse operations, while the trolleys will enhance order fulfillment processes. Additionally, the laptops will play a crucial role in advancing the digitization of procurement systems, thereby streamlining operations.
The saline solutions will address an immediate clinical shortage, providing vital support to patient care. Dr. Cikamatana expressed her gratitude for the partnership, noting that it not only builds upon previous advancements but also sets the stage for a digitally enabled future within Fiji’s healthcare system.
At the handover event, DFAT Senior Program Manager for Health, Dr. Frances Bingwor, emphasized the importance of the donation in ensuring that essential medical supplies consistently reach those in need. She underscored that this collaboration illustrates a mutual commitment to strengthening Fiji’s healthcare infrastructure through innovative and practical support.
This collaboration between Australia and Fiji marks a significant step forward in enhancing healthcare delivery, ultimately aiming to improve health outcomes for the Fijian population.
