The Australian government has issued a travel warning following a concerning incident of “drink spiking” at the Warick Resort. Last night, seven guests were admitted to Sigatoka Hospital experiencing symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and neurological issues after consuming a cocktail from the resort’s bar.

The patients, aged between 18 and 56, experienced varying degrees of severity, leading to the transfer of two individuals to Lautoka Hospital for further treatment. In response to the incident, Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade updated its travel advice for visitors in Fiji.

Travelers are encouraged to exercise usual safety measures and remain vigilant against the risks of drink spiking and methanol poisoning from alcoholic beverages. The advisory stresses the importance of seeking immediate medical assistance if there is a suspicion of drink spiking.

This incident serves as a stark reminder for travelers to stay aware of their surroundings and to take necessary precautions when enjoying nightlife in foreign countries. There is hope that by raising awareness, both local authorities and tourists can work together to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

In summary, the advisory highlights the importance of safety and vigilance while traveling, particularly when it comes to consuming alcoholic drinks, ensuring better protection for tourists in Fiji.
