In an impressive display of skill, the NZFFI Auckland All Stars defeated Labasa 3-1 in their final Group B match of the 2024 Flick Hygiene Pacific Community Cup held in Lautoka. This victory secured their place in the semifinals of the tournament.
Labasa entered the match with four points, needing at least a draw to advance, while the Auckland side was in a must-win scenario. Just before halftime, Andrew Naicker opened the scoring for the Auckland All Stars, skillfully finishing a midfield pass to beat Labasa’s goalkeeper, Simione Tamanisau.
In the second half, Gabriel Matanisiga and Solomon Islander Andrew Abba added two more goals for the All Stars, solidifying their lead. Despite a late penalty conversion by Christopher Wasasala for Labasa, it wasn’t enough to change the outcome of the match.
With this victory, the Auckland All Stars finished in second place in Group B with six points, while the USA All Stars topped the group with seven points, further showcasing the competitive spirit of this tournament.
The Auckland All Stars’ performance not only highlights their determination to retain their title but also serves as a motivational example for teams aiming to succeed at high-stakes competitions.
