The reigning champions, the NZFFI Auckland All Stars, demonstrated their skill and determination as they defeated Labasa 3-1 in their final Group B match of the 2024 Flick Hygiene Pacific Community Cup held in Lautoka. This victory secures their place in the semifinals.
Labasa entered the match with four points and required at least a draw to advance, while the Auckland team faced a must-win scenario. Just before halftime, Andrew Naicker put the Auckland All Stars on the scoreboard with a well-placed shot following a solid midfield pass. In the second half, Gabriel Matanisiga and Solomon Islander Andrew Abba added two more goals, solidifying the team’s lead under the guidance of coach Josaia Bukalidi.
Although Labasa’s Christopher Wasasala managed to score a penalty late in the match, it wasn’t enough to change the outcome. Ultimately, the Auckland All Stars finished second in Group B with six points, just behind the USA All Stars, who topped the group with seven points.
This victory not only highlights the Auckland All Stars’ resilience and talent but also sets a hopeful tone for their journey in the semifinals. Fans will be eager to see how far the team can go in the tournament as they continue to showcase their impressive skills on the field.
