Concerns have emerged regarding the organization of the recent Tuckers Ice-Cream Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Championship held last week in Suva, as highlighted by the Fiji Primary Schools Athletics Association (FPSAA). Lavenia Naivalu, a parent from the Yasawa athletics team, revealed that 20 athletes from her district were prevented from competing due to their names not appearing on any official participation list.
Naivalu indicated that officials informed her that an online registration system set up for the event had experienced technical difficulties, resulting in the misplacement of the athletes’ names on the day of the championship. This situation led to a significant issue for the Yasawa team, which had raised nearly $20,000 to support their 105-member squad’s preparation for the two-day event.
In response to the incident, FPSAA President Patrick Bower acknowledged the seriousness of the complaints raised by Naivalu.
