The Fiji Ministry of Education has initiated a series of walk-in interviews today and tomorrow for Year 13 students aiming to begin their journey in teacher training. These interviews are taking place at several locations, including Nadi SKM College, Natabua High School, Suva Grammar, Sila Central, Labasa College, and the Savusavu Education Office.
This initiative serves to identify enthusiastic and qualified individuals straight from high school to become educators. The interviews are conducted in cooperation with Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs), the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority (FTRA), the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF), and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS).
Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has previously emphasized the importance of this initiative, not only as a means to boost the number of qualified teachers but also to address the rising demand for educators in various fields such as primary education, special needs education, and critical subjects like Mathematics and Science. This aligns with the goals outlined in the 2024-2033 Denarau Declaration, which seeks to enhance collaboration among educational stakeholders to ensure future educators have the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the classroom.
As students aspire to make a significant impact in the field of education, this initiative represents a hopeful step forward, fostering a new generation of dedicated teachers ready to inspire the youth of Fiji. With applications for scholarships closing on January 31, 2025, the program not only aims to fill immediate teaching needs but also invests in the future of education in Fiji, ensuring that passionate candidates are equipped to nurture the next generation of learners.
