Aspen Medical has firmly denied allegations from the Construction Energy, Timber, Workers Union of Fiji (CETWUF) regarding a lack of communication between the two organizations. The healthcare provider stated that it has had no issues with its union workers, despite CETWUF’s claims.
In October 2024, Aspen Medical reached out to CETWUF to discuss any workplace concerns reported by its members. CETWUF subsequently raised issues related to delayed overtime and public holiday payments, which Aspen stated they were already working to resolve. Executive Director Culture and Performance, Edwin Aisake, noted that CETWUF has been informed about the status of these clarifications on seven different occasions.
Aspen Medical reassured the public and stakeholders that they have measures in place to maintain uninterrupted healthcare services at both of their hospitals if a strike were to occur. The organization emphasized that the health and safety of both patients and staff remains their top priority.
Moreover, Aspen Medical is currently seeking clarification from government authorities regarding specific contract provisions affecting workers who transitioned from the government after Aspen took operational control of the two hospitals. Once they receive these clarifications, the organization plans to engage further with the unions, including CETWUF.
This situation highlights Aspen Medical’s commitment to effective communication and the well-being of its staff and patients, reassuring the community of the company’s dedication to maintaining healthcare continuity. As discussions with the union continue, there is hope for a resolution that aligns the interests of all parties involved.
