Fiji’s national airline is enhancing its inflight experience through a new initiative called “Meet the Makers,” which promotes the artistry of local artisans. The campaign features Sigavou Studios, a family-owned art studio directed by Maria Rova, whose vibrant designs now adorn Fiji Airways’ onboard paper cups.
Sigavou Studios is celebrated for its colorful motifs and modern takes on traditional Fijian art, drawing inspiration from the rich culture and stunning natural landscapes of Fiji. The studio honors the traditional practice of masi (barkcloth) making, blending it with contemporary styles and modern colors to create unique pieces.
Maria Rova expressed her excitement about the partnership, stating, “To see our work flying across the world is beyond what we ever imagined. Each cup is a symbol of our love for Fiji and our passion for sharing its beauty.” This collaboration not only showcases the skill of local artisans but also allows travelers to connect with the essence of Fiji.
Fiji Airways’ Chief Customer Officer, Akuila Batiweti, reiterated the airline’s dedication to highlighting local talent, emphasizing that “Every detail onboard carries a story.” He affirmed that working with Sigavou Studios offers passengers a genuine sense of place and connection while traveling.
With the “Meet the Makers” initiative, Fiji Airways reinforces its commitment to celebrating the creativity and culture of the Fijian people, ultimately enhancing the overall travel experience for guests. This approach not only honors local craftsmanship but also provides travelers with a deeper appreciation of Fiji’s artistic heritage.
