Two individuals have been taken into police custody in Rakiraki concerning their alleged involvement in a sacrilege case earlier this month. The arrests were made following a raid by officers from the Rakiraki Criminal Investigations Department at Rewasa, where police discovered sound equipment believed to have been stolen from a local temple.

This incident is part of a worrying trend involving sacrilege against places of worship in Fiji. Just last week, a break-in was reported at the Dugapatu Mariamman Temple, where equipment valued at over $1,000 was also stolen. Following that event, authorities began conducting house-to-house inquiries to locate the suspect, raising concerns over the security and sanctity of these religious spaces.

Similar thefts have been occurring across the country, with reports of such incidents in Lautoka and Nalawa. Community leaders and police are urging residents to remain vigilant and work collaboratively to enhance the protection of these sacred sites. There’s hope that by joining efforts, both law enforcement and the community can foster a spirit of unity and respect for diverse faiths, ensuring the ongoing safety of places of worship.

As investigations continue, these collective community actions may lead to improved security measures, fostering peace and harmony in the area.
