The Ratu Sukuna Bowl reached its third day today, with the RFMF Army Wives successfully defending their netball title against the Police Wives, winning a closely contested match 25-22 at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva.
In another impressive display, Army Servers 2 claimed victory over Police Servers 2, scoring 44 points to 29.
Team Coach Seini Naigatogato expressed her gratitude towards the seasoned players who stepped in to support the team’s preparation, acknowledging their contributions to retaining the title this year. She noted, “I thank the Army Wives Club for supporting the team this year. This year we had to get some old players to come and share their experiences with the new ones, so we’re hoping that by next year, we will get some new players.”
Captain of Army Servers 2, Venina Naigatogato, praised her team’s collaboration and effort, which led them to victory, especially after Police Servers 2 took the title last year. She remarked, “I’m very proud of the girls for the effort they gave in; it was a very tense competition, but through fitness and teamwork, the team was able to pull through.”
Emotional moments unfolded for Naigatogato as she dedicated their victory to all Army Servers worldwide and especially to the late Private Lawanigusu, who recently lost her battle with cancer. “Today’s win is dedicated to all the Servers around the world, especially our comrade who passed away last Thursday. We couldn’t attend her funeral today, but we dedicate our win to her and her family.”
The Ratu Sukuna Bowl Netball competition is scheduled for conclusion today.
This event not only showcases the talent and determination of the participants but also highlights the camaraderie and support found within the military community. The team’s dedication to their late comrade serves as a poignant reminder of the strength and resilience embodied by these athletes. As the competition wraps up, the hope for new talent and continued teamwork signals a bright future for their netball endeavors.
