The Army cricket team has claimed the title of champions in the 2025 Vodafone Sukuna Bowl, securing a thrilling three-wicket victory over the Police team at Albert Park in Suva. This match, held yesterday, was a rematch against last year’s champions and marked a significant achievement for the Army team.
Batting first, the Police managed to set a target of 232 runs in 46 overs, with Delaimakutu securing the top score of the innings with 52 runs. However, it was Army’s turn to bat that proved to be the highlight of the day. Demonstrating resilience and skill, the Army successfully chased down the target by achieving a final score of 233 for the loss of seven wickets in the 46th over.
Makutu Seru Tupou emerged as the standout player of the match, scoring an impressive 78 runs, which earned him the prestigious Man of the Match award. Following the match, Coach Taniela Naulivou praised the team’s performance and recognized the victory against the defending champions as a major milestone.
“The team did really well; defeating the defending champions is a big achievement and a good start for the RFMF team,” Naulivou commented.
