Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey, known for their roles in the musical Wicked, are set to reunite for a highly anticipated revival of the acclaimed musical Sunday in the Park with George. The announcement was teased through a shared Instagram post featuring the duo in front of Georges Seurat’s famous painting, which the production is based on, accompanied by lyrics from the show.
The revival is confirmed to take place at London’s Barbican Theatre in the summer of 2027. Originally created by the legendary composer Stephen Sondheim and playwright James Lapine, the musical first premiered on Broadway in 1984. Grande and Bailey have captivated audiences with their performances as Glinda and Fiyero in the recent Wicked film adaptation, further solidifying their status as two of Hollywood’s leading talents, with Grande even receiving an Oscar nomination last year.
As they transition from the magical land of Oz to the vibrant theatre scene in London, the pair will likely continue to enchant audiences. Sunday in the Park with George draws inspiration from Seurat’s iconic work, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, following the fictional artist Georges as he becomes increasingly absorbed by his art. While the specific roles of Grande and Bailey in the revival remain unannounced, the story centers around the character of Dot, Georges’ lover, who grows distant from him as his artistic pursuit intensifies.
Ariana Grande’s musical journey is set to begin earlier, as she has planned ten concert dates in London during August and September 2026 for her Eternal Sunshine Tour. Despite previously hinting that this might be her last tour for some time, her collaboration with Bailey signals her commitment to the stage isn’t over.
Fans can look forward to securing tickets for the revival, which will go on sale in May, promising a remarkable theatrical experience ahead.
