Argentina’s Stunning Comeback: Wallabies Suffer Historic Defeat

Argentina delivered a historic victory against the Wallabies in Santa Fe, scoring nine tries to overcome a 17-point deficit and ultimately winning 67-27 in the Rugby Championship.

The match began with the hosts trailing 20-3, but they found their rhythm late in the second half, registering four tries in the final nine minutes. This match marked the highest points conceded by the Wallabies in a test, surpassing their previous record of 61-22 against South Africa in 1997.

The defeat followed a narrow 20-19 victory for Australia over Argentina just a week earlier, played in challenging rainy conditions. In stark contrast, the latest match took place under sunny skies, and Australia initially appeared strong with Ben Donaldson assisting fullback Andrew Kellaway for their second try, establishing a 17-point lead.

Carlo Tizzano opened the scoring for the game after a penalty goal for Los Pumas. However, Argentina shifted into high gear just before halftime, with Mateo Carreras capitalizing on excellent work from Pablo Matera and skipper Julian Montoya exploiting gaps in the Wallabies’ defense.

Despite a close attempt at another score before the break, Argentina continued their momentum after halftime. An unforced error by Marika Koroibete allowed Argentine territory, resulting in Juan Martin Gonzalez scoring.

Pablo Matera then scored following a change in the Australian halves, as Argentina surged ahead with an impressive total of 38 consecutive points.
