Archbishop Peter L. Chong experienced a heart attack before undergoing emergency surgery at Aspen Lautoka Hospital early on Monday, September 7th. According to the Archdiocese of Suva, Archbishop Chong was initially admitted on Friday, September 5th, after developing an intestinal obstruction during a Leadership Fiji workshop at the Fijian Resort. Doctors swiftly stabilized the Archbishop, performing emergency surgery at 3:30 a.m. During the operation, it was discovered that the intestinal obstruction had resolved naturally, though some inflammation remained, which was treated accordingly. Following the procedure, Archbishop Chong was monitored closely in the Intensive Care and Coronary Care Units. By September 15th, he showed significant improvement. Archbishop Chong has expressed profound gratitude to all those who offered prayers and support during his critical illness.
