A trough of low pressure over Fiji is producing widespread cloud, rain and gusty north‑easterly winds. A heavy rain warning remains in force for the Northern Division, interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu, Lomaiviti and the Yasawa group, while a heavy rain alert covers the rest of the country. Strong wind alerts are current for land areas of the Northern Division, Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, and a strong wind warning remains in force for Rotuma.
The most affected areas — including the interior and eastern Viti Levu corridor (from Serua‑Namosi‑Naitasiri through to Suva‑Nausori‑Tailevu North and Ra‑Rakiraki), Lomaiviti and the Yasawa group — can expect occasional to periods of rain that will be heavy at times, with a few thunderstorms. Fresh to strong north to northeasterly winds are forecast to develop later today, with sustained speeds up to 45 km/h and gusts to 55 km/h. Seas will be rough and localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low‑lying areas.
Elsewhere across the islands, showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, with rain gradually becoming more frequent and heavy especially in the afternoon and evening. Winds will be moderate to fresh from the north to northeast and gusty at times. The outlook for Monday is for occasional rain, heavy at times with isolated thunderstorms over most places, accompanied by fresh to strong north to northeasterly winds and continued rough seas.
Rotuma will continue to be affected by an active trough. Over land, expect strong northeasterly winds with speeds up to 45 km/h and gusts to 55 km/h. Over the surrounding waters, northeasterly winds of 20 to 25 knots, gusting up to 30 knots, are expected with rough seas. Occasional rain, heavy at times, and a few thunderstorms will continue, and strong winds and thunderstorms are forecast to persist into Monday.
Residents and visitors should take care in low‑lying and flood‑prone areas and avoid driving through standing water. Mariners and small craft operators should exercise caution in rough seas and strong winds. Temperatures will remain fairly warm: most places will see night‑time minima around 23–24°C and daytime maxima around 28–30°C. For example, Navua/Suva/Nausori are forecast around 24/29°C; Nadi/Lautoka/Ba around 23/30°C; Yasawa/Mamanuca around 24/28°C; and Rotuma around 24/29°C.
