April 28, 2026 Fiji Forecast: Cloudy Skies with Brief Showers and Afternoon Thunderstorms Bringing Heavy Falls Across Most Islands; Rotuma to Expect Showers, Southeast Winds and Rough Seas

Stormy ocean and dark clouds over rocky shoreline in Fiji.

Cloudy periods and brief showers are expected across several parts of the group through to midnight tomorrow, with most other areas remaining largely fine apart from the chance of isolated afternoon or evening showers. Isolated thunderstorms producing heavy falls are possible in the afternoon and evening for many locations. Winds are expected to be moderate from the southeast and seas moderate around the Fiji group.

Cloudy spells with brief showers are most likely over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. In these areas, afternoon or evening thunderstorms with heavy falls remain possible. The outlook for Thursday is similar, with continued cloudy periods and brief showers and the same risk of isolated heavy thunderstorms.

Mainland coastal and western districts will see mostly fine conditions through the day but remain vulnerable to afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms. Navua, Suva and Nausori are forecast to be cloudy at times with brief showers and possible heavy afternoon or evening thunderstorms; temperatures tomorrow are expected between 23°C and 31°C, easing slightly to 22°C–31°C on Thursday. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba should be fine apart from late showers or storms, with tomorrow’s range 23°C–33°C and Thursday 22°C–32°C. Tavua, Rakiraki and Labasa carry a similar pattern of fair weather interrupted by potential evening storms; Tavua/Rakiraki tomorrow 23°C–32°C (Thursday 22°C–32°C) and Labasa tomorrow 23°C–33°C (Thursday 22°C–32°C).

Island groups vary: the Yasawa and Mamanuca chain is expected to remain mainly fine, with temperatures around 23°C–31°C for both tomorrow and Thursday. The Coral Coast and Sigatoka will generally be fine during the day but with the usual risk of afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms capable of heavy falls; temps around 23°C–31°C, easing to lows near 22°C on Thursday. Taveuni, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, and the outer Lau and Lomaiviti islands are forecast to see cloudy periods with brief showers and a chance of evening thunderstorms, with typical ranges of about 23°C–31°C now and 22°C–31°C on Thursday.

Rotuma is affected by a weak trough of low pressure and can expect cloudy periods with some showers and possible isolated thunderstorms. Winds will be moderate to fresh southeasterlies and seas moderate to rough there, with temperatures around 24°C–32°C for both tomorrow and Thursday. Mariners and those planning coastal activities should note the moderate seas around the main islands and the rougher conditions near Rotuma, while everyone in areas prone to evening storms should be prepared for brief, locally heavy rainfall.
