Cloudy periods will dominate today with showers and isolated thunderstorms in many areas, and heavy falls are possible over interior and eastern parts of the larger islands and several outlying groups. Elsewhere conditions will be mostly fine, though afternoon and evening showers with isolated thunderstorms remain possible. Winds will be moderate to fresh and seas moderate to rough.
The most unsettled weather is expected across the interior and eastern sections of the main islands — from Serua, Namosi and Naitasiri through Navua, Suva and Nausori to northern Tailevu — as well as southern Bua and Cakaudrove provinces, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. These areas should expect periods of rain with isolated thunderstorms and the possibility of heavy downpours at times.
Coastal and western districts will generally see finer weather, but daytime heating may trigger afternoon or evening showers and isolated thunderstorms. Local forecasts for major centres include highs around the low 30s Celsius: Navua/Suva/Nausori around 31°C today, Nadi/Lautoka/Ba near 32°C, and Labasa about 32°C. Night-time lows are mostly in the low to mid 20s across the group.
Winds are expected to be moderate to fresh southeasterlies today, becoming east to southeasterly on Tuesday. Seas will remain moderate to rough through tonight and into Tuesday, and mariners and those using smaller vessels should take care. Rotuma remains under the influence of a weak trough with cloudy periods, showers and possible thunderstorms, along with moderate to fresh northeasterly winds and moderate to rough seas.
The outlook into Tuesday is similar: cloudy periods with showers and isolated thunderstorms possible over the interior and eastern parts of the larger islands and the named outer islands, while most other areas stay fine apart from the risk of afternoon or evening showers. Residents in locations where heavy falls are possible should be prepared for periods of heavy rain and brief thunderstorms.
