An appeal has been filed against the decision by the Registrar of Political Parties to de-register a former ruling party. FijiLive has confirmed that the appeal was submitted over the weekend. The deadline for the appeal was Sunday, July 14, 2024. A decision on the appeal is expected within 21 days.

The Registrar of Political Parties, Ana Mataiciwa, de-registered the party on July 1, 2024, in accordance with section 12(4) of the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding & Disclosures) Act, 2013. The party was instructed to amend its Constitution to include provisions required under Schedule 2 of the Act and was given until June 28 to make the necessary changes.

As the party did not comply with the requirement, it was de-registered effective from July 1 and given 14 days to appeal.
