ANZ Pacific has announced the decision to relocate its Pacific Reconciliations function from Suva to its Group Reconciliations Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, a transition scheduled to take place in May 2025. Rabih Yazbek, the Country Head for Fiji at ANZ Bank, reassured that the 17 staff members in the reconciliation unit will not face job losses; instead, they will be offered alternative positions within ANZ Pacific Operations and ANZ Fiji.

This strategic move is part of ANZ’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations and reduce non-financial risks. According to Mr. Yazbek, the bank has been working to simplify their business operations and the transition of the Pacific Reconciliations function represents the alignment of ANZ Pacific with other parts of the organization that have adopted a similar reconciliation approach through the Global CoE.

The decision to shift operations is underpinned by a thorough review aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and reducing manual processing risks. Mr. Yazbek emphasized that customers will not be impacted by this change, which is intended to improve accuracy and efficiency through the utilization of advanced technology and established frameworks.

While the reconciliation unit’s work is moving, Mr. Yazbek mentioned that new roles will be created in the Pacific Operations, including responsibilities related to Know Your Customer functions, Retail Non-Individual Account Opening, and securities management. He acknowledged the transition may be challenging for the team but expressed a commitment to supporting staff throughout the process.

This announcement reflects ANZ’s commitment to growth and adaptation in a rapidly changing financial landscape, providing reassurance to both employees and customers about the company’s long-term vision and dedication to operational excellence.

Overall, this decision highlights ANZ’s proactive approach to refining its operations and creating new growth opportunities for its staff in the Pacific region.
