Ana Laqeretabua, an esteemed leadership coach, facilitator, and trainer, has recently taken on the role of Commissioner with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). Currently serving as the Principal Consultant and sole director of SALT Inc. Ltd, a development consultancy based in Suva, Fiji, Laqeretabua has been contributing to this field since 2009.
The TRC recognizes Laqeretabua’s extensive communication and facilitation skills, as well as her in-depth understanding of Fiji’s social and political landscape. Her professional journey began as a cadet reporter for the Fiji Sun in 1987, during which she reported on the significant events surrounding the military coup d’état. Following her time at the Fiji Sun, she worked with The Fiji Times until 1991, focusing primarily on court proceedings and daily news coverage.
Laqeretabua holds a Master’s degree in Gender Culture and Development and a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications from the UK. Recently, she completed a second Master’s degree in Gender, Sexuality, and Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London.
With over two decades of experience, she has facilitated personal development and leadership training across the Pacific, emphasizing gender and social inclusion, as well as communications for development. Notably, she is a member of the global Maxwell Leadership Team, associated with renowned leadership expert John C. Maxwell, and proudly holds the highest level of certification as an Executive Program Leader.
Laqeretabua’s dedication extends beyond her consultancy role; she has participated on various NGO and Civil Society Organization boards in Fiji and serves as a Trustee for the Women’s Fund Fiji. Her appointment as a TRC Commissioner reflects her commitment to fostering dialogue and understanding within the community, paving the way for a more reconciled and inclusive society.
This development is a promising step for Fiji, as leadership figures like Laqeretabua continue to advocate for social progress and unity amidst the nation’s diverse challenges.
