Members of the New Zealand Fiji Business Council (NZFBC) convened recently in Suva to launch the Fiji Business Mission, an annual event aimed at enhancing business connections between New Zealand and Fiji. The mission’s primary goal this year is to reach a trade target of $2 billion, an ambitious objective set by the Prime Ministers of both nations the previous year.
NZFBC President Chandar Sen emphasized the shift from aid to trade, reinforcing the commitment to achieving the $2 billion target initially proposed before the pandemic interrupted business plans. This year’s delegation includes 30 New Zealand businesses from a variety of sectors such as engineering, IT, and agriculture, each exploring business opportunities within Fiji.
Deputy Commissioner of New Zealand to Fiji, Alex Shahryar-Davies, remarked on the Canadian government’s support to strengthen trade ties and assist in achieving these ambitious goals. The Fiji Business Mission, which concludes this Friday, incorporates forums and site visits meant to foster potential investments and business deals between New Zealand and Fijian companies.
Prior articles indicate that this trade mission aligns with broader objectives laid out by both governments to enhance bilateral trade, with previous discussions highlighting the need for cooperation across various sectors. Such initiatives reflect the rising importance of Fiji as a trade partner for New Zealand, especially as bilateral trade levels have already seen significant growth, reaching approximately NZD 1.4 billion.
With strategic partnerships and mutual efforts to bolster trade, there is a positive outlook for the future. Both nations appear poised to benefit economically from this collaboration, indicating a strengthened relationship that could produce wider opportunities for growth and prosperity in the region.
