The Lilian Amazons, sponsored by Blue Gas, are set to head to Napier, New Zealand, for the Duavata Sevens tournament this Saturday. After this event, they will make their inaugural appearance at the Malake Sevens tournament on October 26.
The Amazons recently extended their winning streak by claiming victory at the Fullsend Sevens tournament in Whanganui, where they defeated Fullsend 22-17 in the Cup final. Manager Mere Gaunavou stated that this achievement represents another significant milestone for the young team.
“Last year, the team achieved success at the esteemed Darwin Hottest 7s tournament, and we’ve consistently excelled in local competitions,” she noted.
Just a few weeks ago, the team triumphed in the Brimstone Sevens against the reigning champions Seahawks, a club featuring both current and former Fijiana representatives.
Gaunavou expressed gratitude towards the team’s primary sponsor, Blue Gas, as well as associate sponsor Flame Tree, alongside the families and supporters for their unwavering support.
“The team’s success is built on a strong culture and rigorous training programs. Most of these girls are new to rugby, so it demands significant sacrifice and proper training to compete and win, even with their limited experience,” she added.
