The Blue Gas-sponsored Lilian Amazons are set to head to Napier, New Zealand, for the Duavata Sevens tournament this Saturday. This event precedes their participation in the Malake Sevens tournament on October 26.
The Amazons recently extended their impressive winning streak by clinching the Cup title at the Fullsend Sevens tournament in Whanganui, defeating the Fullsend team with a score of 22-17 in the final.
Manager Mere Gaunavou highlighted the significance of this victory for the young team, stating that it represents another important achievement. She noted that the team also triumphed at the prestigious Darwin Hottest 7s tournament last year and has consistently excelled in local competitions.
Just a few weeks ago, the Amazons claimed victory in the Brimstone Sevens by overcoming the champion Seahawks, a club that features both current and former members of the Fijiana team.
Gaunavou expressed gratitude toward the team’s main sponsor, Blue Gas, as well as associate sponsor Flame Tree, along with families and fans for their ongoing support.
She emphasized that the team’s accomplishments stem from a robust culture and disciplined training routines. Many players are relatively new to rugby, making their achievements incredibly commendable given the dedication and training required to compete successfully despite their limited experience.
