The Lilian Amazons, sponsored by Blue Gas, are set to travel to Napier, New Zealand, for the upcoming Duavata Sevens tournament on Saturday. This event precedes their first appearance at the Malake Sevens tournament, scheduled for October 26.
The Amazons have continued their impressive winning streak after clinching the Cup final at the Fullsend Sevens tournament in Whanganui, with a 22-17 victory over Fullsend.
Team manager Mere Gaunavou expressed that this win represents another significant achievement for the young team. She noted, “Last year, the team won the prestigious Darwin Hottest 7s tournament, and we have consistently performed well in local tournaments.”
Just weeks prior, the Amazons secured a win at the Brimstone Sevens, defeating the champion Seahawks, who include both current and former Fijiana representatives.
Gaunavou extended her gratitude to the team’s major sponsor, Blue Gas, as well as associate sponsor Flame Tree, along with their families and supporters. She stated, “The team’s success is rooted in its strong culture and rigorous training programmes. Most of these girls are new to rugby, so it takes immense sacrifice and proper training to compete and win, despite their young training age.”
