Island Team Triumphs: Aloha Taveuni Claims Historic 7s Victory

Aloha Taveuni’s Young Stars Shine in Nail-Biting Rugby Triumph!

The Aloha Taveuni under-21 rugby team has made a remarkable impact by securing the title in the under-18-21 division of the Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s tournament, which took place at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. In a tightly contested final, the team pulled off a narrow victory against the AJ Pallet Ba River team with a score of 7-5.

Coach Noa Taveiwaka proudly reflected on this significant achievement, noting that it echoes their win at last year’s Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s. This tournament marked the Aloha Taveuni’s first participation in the Nawaka 7s, expanding their horizons into the western region of Fiji. “It’s an honor to come this far from the island and participate in the Nawaka 7s,” Taveiwaka remarked, highlighting the pride of representing their community.

The victory bears special significance as the team faced the challenge without several crucial players who were sidelined due to injuries. Taveiwaka acknowledged the indispensable support from fans throughout the tournament. He particularly dedicated the win to Bill Vilimone, one of the injured players, alongside gratitude for the continued support from his family.

Looking ahead, Taveiwaka confirmed that the team would opt out of the upcoming Fiji Bitter Marist 7s, choosing instead to engage with other clubs for development opportunities during that period. This decision underscores a commitment to foster the players’ growth and exposure in the sport.

This achievement not only exemplifies the dedication and resilience of the young athletes but also reinforces the vibrant spirit of youth rugby in Fiji. The supportive community and perseverance displayed by the team hold promise for a bright future, encouraging an environment where sports can thrive and create meaningful experiences for these talented individuals.
