Allegations, Resignations, and a Burglary: What’s Really Happening in Fiji?

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu has refuted claims made by former acting deputy commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), Francis Puleiwai, regarding a burglary at her residence following her resignation from FICAC on September 5, 2024.

In an interview with ABC News, Puleiwai alleged that her home was broken into and the tires of her vehicle were slashed after her resignation. However, ACP Driu stated that a report regarding the break-in was actually filed in April of this year, prior to the resignation and the appointment of Barbara Malimali.

“I can confirm that there was a report lodged in April this year and not after her resignation and Barbara Malimali’s appointment,” he asserted. Driu also mentioned that some of the stolen items have since been recovered and returned to Puleiwai.

He expressed the belief that the break-in incident was unrelated to Puleiwai’s resignation or Malimali’s new position. Additionally, Driu noted that police are currently investigating Puleiwai following a report lodged against her at the Totogo Police Station.
