Allegations of Burglary and Resignation: What Really Happened?

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu has refuted claims made by Francis Puleiwai, the former acting deputy commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), regarding her house being broken into following her resignation on September 5, 2024. In an interview with ABC News, Puleiwai alleged that her residence was vandalized and the tyres of her car were slashed after her departure from FICAC.

However, ACP Driu stated that a report concerning the break-in at Puleiwai’s home was filed in April of this year, long before her resignation. “I can confirm that there was a report lodged in April this year and not after her resignation and Barbara Malimali’s appointment,” he noted, adding that some of the stolen items have since been recovered and returned to her.

Driu expressed his belief that the break-in incident was unrelated to Puleiwai’s resignation or Malimali’s subsequent appointment. Additionally, he mentioned that an investigation into Puleiwai is underway, following a report lodged against her at the Totogo Police Station.
