Three former All Blacks are set to join the Flying Fijians this year, with eligibility beginning in July. Pita Gus Sowakula, who last represented New Zealand on July 9, 2022, will be eligible for Fiji in July. George Bower and Hoskins Sotutu, who both played their last match for the All Blacks on November 19, 2022, will also be joining the Fijian ranks. While Sowakula and Bower are only able to represent Fiji, Sotutu has the unique opportunity to choose between playing for Fiji or England due to qualifying ties through his family.

In addition, Akira Ioane is slated to be eligible to play for Samoa or Japan starting in November, following his last cap for New Zealand on November 13, 2022. Furthermore, Highlanders halfback Folau Fakatava will be available to represent Tonga starting in July after last playing for the All Blacks on July 16, 2022.

The involvement of these players provides an exciting opportunity for Fijian rugby, which can benefit from the experience and skills of these high-caliber athletes. This shift highlights the growing trend of athletes exploring diverse opportunities in international rugby, which not only enriches the teams but also enhances the overall competitiveness of the sport.

In summary, the Flying Fijians are set to strengthen their squad with the addition of former All Blacks, enhancing their chances in upcoming international competitions and showcasing the evolving landscape of rugby eligibility and international representation. This development offers a promising look into the future of Fijian rugby and the nations they face.
