All Blacks winger Sevu Reece has been fined NZD 2,000 following an incident in which he crashed a vehicle into a garage while under the influence last year. Initially charged with taking a car without permission and damaging the owner’s garage door, the charges were later reduced to a single count of willful damage after Reece pleaded guilty.

During a recent court appearance at the Christchurch District Court, the 27-year-old Reece expressed his remorse, stating, “Standing here today I just want to say that I’m really, really sorry for my behaviour that’s led to us being here in court today.” He has received a discharge of his conviction but is required to pay the fine.

The incident occurred on November 15 of last year, after Reece was asked to leave a suburban gathering due to his disrespectful behavior towards other guests. He then accessed a car parked in the driveway, crashed it into the victim’s garage, and left the scene.

This incident serves as a reminder of the responsibilities athletes hold both on and off the field. While Reece has faced consequences for his actions, his acknowledgment of wrongdoing and public apology may be seen as a step toward personal accountability and growth. With time, he can use this experience to better himself and his career, ultimately setting a positive example for others in similar positions.
