New Zealand Rugby has announced that Scott Robertson will step down as head coach of the All Blacks, a decision made following the completion of an end-of-season review. His departure comes in the midst of his four-year contract, meaning he will conclude his time in charge after the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

Robertson expressed his disappointment over the decision, stating he was “gutted by this outcome” after less than two years leading the national team. He took the reins from Ian Foster after the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, stepping into the role during a transitional period for the squad.

Despite achieving some notable victories, the All Blacks under Robertson faced difficulties in maintaining consistent performance. Highlights of his tenure include a historic loss to Argentina on their home soil, marking a first in history, as well as a significant defeat to South Africa in Wellington. New Zealand also failed to clinch the Rugby Championship during his time as head coach, although they did manage to preserve their long-standing unbeaten record at Eden Park, which has stood since 1994, just a week prior to the loss against South Africa.

Robertson’s coaching record stands at 20 victories from 27 Test matches. As the search for his successor begins, Highlanders head coach Jamie Joseph has quickly become a frontrunner to take over the helm of the All Blacks. This leadership transition places the national team in a pivotal position as they prepare for the upcoming 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia, signaling an important rebuilding phase for the iconic rugby squad.
