Liam Barry has been named the new Head Coach of the Australia men’s 7s rugby team. Previously an assistant coach with the All Blacks 7s, Barry spent six years working alongside former New Zealand 7s head coach Clark Laidlaw.
In a statement, Barry expressed his enthusiasm for this opportunity, particularly building on the successes from the recent Paris Olympics. He emphasized the strong foundation laid by previous management, acknowledging the efforts of John and his team over the last cycle. “I’m not looking to reinvent the wheel but rather build on what is already there,” Barry stated. He highlighted the players’ attributes of fitness, speed, and skill, expressing eagerness to collaborate with them.
Barry’s debut as head coach will occur during the SVNS World Series kickoff in Dubai, setting the stage for an exciting new chapter for himself and the team.
This transition presents a promising outlook for Australian rugby, as Barry aims to leverage the existing strengths of the team while enhancing their potential on the world stage. The combination of his experience and the foundation already in place provides optimism for future successes.
