Liam Barry, formerly the assistant coach of the All Blacks 7s, has been appointed as the Head Coach for the Australia men’s 7s team. After six years working alongside former NZ 7s coach Clark Laidlaw, Barry is excited to embark on this new journey, particularly following the team’s performance at the Paris Olympics.
In a statement, Barry expressed his enthusiasm for leading the team into the next competitive cycle, acknowledging the solid foundation established by the previous coaching staff under John. He emphasized that his goal is not to overhaul the existing strategies but to enhance and build upon them, recognizing the players’ fitness, speed, and skills as valuable assets.
Barry’s debut in this role will take place at the SVNS world series opener in Dubai, where he will have the opportunity to implement his vision for the team.
This appointment is a hopeful sign for Australian rugby, as Barry’s experience and strategic focus on continuity may help propel the men’s 7s team to new heights in international competition. With a foundation from the last cycle and the talent within the squad, there is potential for significant achievements ahead.
