Former Fiji Pearls star Alisi Galo is poised to make her international rugby debut after being selected for the Vodagone Fijiana XV squad for upcoming test matches. Galo is one of four uncapped players included in the 30-member team for games against Scotland and the Netherlands this month.
Previously a national netball defender, Galo played with the Suva women’s rugby team this season, where she was awarded best player of the year at the Marama Championship season’s award night. She is joined in the squad by Suva rugby teammates Salaseini Railumu, Alfreda Fisher, and Ivamere Nabura.
Railumu, sister of Fijiana Drua scrumhalf Setaita Railumu, adds depth at flanker, while Galo and Fisher will compete for the number eight position against Karalaini Naisewa. Former Fijiana 7s player Nabura will take on the role of first-five, contending with Jennifer Ravutia and Salanieta Kinita.
Kolora Lomani and Talei Wilson, who represented the Fijiana 7s team at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, have also been named in the squad. Additionally, Litiana Lawedrau, who was dropped from the Fijian Drua women’s team during their inaugural Super W season for violating camp rules, has made the final roster.
The Fijiana team is set to clash with Scotland on September 15 at Hive Stadium and will take on the Netherlands on September 19 at the National Rugby Centre in Amsterdam. Following these matches, they will proceed to WXV 3 in Dubai starting September 27.
