A 37-year-old man from Lautoka is currently in police custody following an accident that occurred while he was driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident took place on Sukanaivalu Road, where the driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a 40-year-old account clerk who was standing by the roadside. The victim has been admitted to Lautoka Aspen Hospital for treatment.

In a separate incident earlier that same day, another 37-year-old man from Kuku, Bau, Tailevu, was involved in an accident on Knolly Street. He also lost control of his vehicle, veering off the road and colliding with a concrete retaining wall. This driver was similarly found to be under the influence of alcohol and is now receiving care at CWM Hospital.

Authorities are currently conducting investigations into both incidents, emphasizing the dangers of driving while impaired.

These accidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the severe consequences that can arise from alcohol consumption before getting behind the wheel. It is hoped that these incidents raise awareness within the community and promote safer driving practices.

In summary, both incidents highlight the urgent need for continued education and enforcement around the dangers of driving under the influence, with the hope that such awareness will lead to a decrease in similar occurrences in the future.
