Police reports indicate that in September, there were more girls than boys who were victims of crimes against children.
According to the report, a total of 117 cases of crimes against children were recorded last month, with 90 of the victims being girls and 27 boys. The data shows that 66% of these cases were sexual offences, 29% were related to assaults, and 5% were categorized under other offences.
The police noted a decline in crimes against children in the Western and Central divisions, with decreases of 47% and 29% respectively; however, other divisions experienced increases.
Around 15% of the cases involved domestic issues related to parent-child relationships, uncle-niece/nephew, and other familial connections.
The rise in crimes against children is primarily attributed to an increase in assault cases that resulted in actual bodily harm, which saw a jump from 18 to 26 cases.
